[Personality]:
Chandra Nalaar is a poster child for a wielder of red mana, exemplifying nearly every tenant that pyromancers hold dear. First and foremost Chandra values freedom above all things. She hates being restricted, restrained, or forced to do anything, and when placed into a situation where harsh restrictions are placed on her she often reacts violently. This is not to say that she’s an anarchist, merely that she has problems with authority figures imposing hefty restrictions on her and those she considers friends and allies. Freedom, she feels, is the right of anyone who’s able to stand up and take it. As an example, when she encounters the Order of Heliud on the plane of Regatha, Chandra initially seems unimpressed with them and leaves them be until they begin trying to outlaw fire magic and placing restrictions on the pyromancers of Keral Keep. When that happens, she takes steps to unmake them, explosively.

Chandra is a reckless and impulsive young woman, prone to acting on emotion and intuition rather than rational, logical thought. That isn’t to say that she’s stupid, just that she doesn’t always think things through. Chandra, like most red mages, is happy to apply fire to solve whatever problems that come her way. Improvisation and clever application of her magic usually helps her overcome most things, but when she’s frustrated Chandra’s temper takes over. Her fury, like all of her emotions, bubbles close to the surface and she readily acts on it. She’s not a difficult person to manipulate in that regard, and she’s not very good at seeing the big picture. More crafty and manipulative individuals often find it easy to set Chandra off on a wild goose chase, such as Jace Beleren and his illusionary magic during their duel in The Purifying Flame.

For all her impulses, though, Chandra is an incredibly willful individual. She absolutely refuses to give in to despair and pain, and she’s willing to fight with everything she has to accomplish whatever her goals are. An example would be her escape from the Enervants on Kelaphai. She used every trick she could, bore an incredible amount of pain when they tortured her, and still managed to escape with her hide intact and leaving several of her captors dead, all while starting out powerless and manacled to a wall. Her inner fire alone let her hold out long enough to think of a means of escape, whereas a lesser person might have broken under the strain.

Chandra is a person who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, and she is willing to kill in anger and out of vengeance. She’s more than willing to hold a longstanding grudge, and does swear an oath to destroy any organization aligned with White mana for past grievances. Forgiveness is not in the nature of fire, and so she doesn’t even pretend to be willing to let others slights go unanswered. She doesn’t get offended easily, shrugging off all but the worst verbal insults, but if she does watch out.

Despite this willingness to kill in battle, Chandra is not truly a murderer or even cold blooded. She doesn’t kill without purpose, and doesn’t even really fight without cause if she can avoid it. She protects the lives of people she cares about, and has shown a certain fondness for children and other young people. Chandra’s personality doesn’t allow her to sit idly by when people need help, though she does it for the sake of preserving individual freedom than any sense of justice and altruism. She’s violent, but she’s far from murderous. She doesn’t like talking, and doesn’t really focus on diplomacy, instead preferring intimidation to avoid fighting.

Another thing about her is that she has a very quirky sense of humor. She enjoys quips, sarcastic jabs, and has a fairly biting wit when it comes to people that she knows. However, this doesn’t apply to enemies or people she doesn’t know. They get a moody, petulant Chandra instead. Her reactions to people and opinions can turn on a dime, as unpredictable as fire, though she’s never shown as willing to betray trust or an ally. This mercurial attitude is reserved for people she doesn’t know, and friends get a staunch, loyal, and fairly selfless side of Chandra. As stated above, her emotions run close to the surface, so she loves big, laughs big, and even acts a really flirty a lot of the time.

Finally, and thankfully for those around her, Chandra recognizes just how dangerous her powers can be. Due to accidents when her pyromantic powers manifested and an accident with her magic that ended up destroying the plane she grew up in, Chandra found herself pursued by the law and if her Planeswalker spark hadn’t ignited she’d have been executed. Part of the reason she joined the Fire mages at Keral Keep was to help learn to control her powers better so the boiling emotions that flow within doesn’t override her control and lead her to destroy everything around her. Those keenly felt emotions she draws on for strength, and they do have dramatic effects (not the least of which is her hair lighting on fire!), but they do have a downside that she does understand.

[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:
Strengths:
Chandra, first and foremost, is a lean, strong and fit person with a knack for getting into and out of, trouble. She’s clever, strong willed, and quite capable of holding her own in a fight even without her magic. Her body heals itself more rapidly, and she can recover from injuries that should kill a normal person, as shown in The Purifying Flame after she’s taken by Prince Velrav’s men. This is due, in no small part, to her Planeswalker’s spark. Planeswalkers are blessed with some small supernatural fortitude and power that other mages simply don’t have, and while they do age they do have prolonged lifespans. She’s also pretty good at sneaking around, avoiding detection, and has some nearly preternatural senses when it comes to reacting to danger. Similarly, she has the ability to feel the flows of magic, a sense necessary to channel mana at all.

Chandra’s real powers lie in her ability to manipulate fire. She is a naturally gifted wielder of Red mana, the power of fire, lightning, and the earth, and while she can use earth and electrical magic they don’t hold the same allure for her as flame so she doesn’t typically turn to them without a cause. She possesses a positively dizzying array of spells like any planeswalker, though most of them go kaboom. Chandra’s magic isn’t limited to just blowing things up though. The second most common use of her power is to call up Elementals and other sorts of constructs. These beings are pure expressions of flame given a physical form. They aren’t sentient things, they’re created to serve a purpose, and range in size and scope from small imps made of fire to ten foot tall golems that ooze lava, to a phoenix made of pure flame. She's also able to augment her body and others around her, making herself stronger by drawing on Mana. Finally, Red magic has the ability to influence strong emotions in other nearby beings. Making them happy, or angry, passionate or zealous, that sort of thing. This is obviously player discretion about whether it works on players.

And it's worth noting too that Chandra is beginning to learn to manipulate Blue mana, drawing on the sea for power when fire isn't an acceptable answer. It's a weak ability at the moment, but eventually she'll learn to use it better, particularly in an ocean-going game. All that she's really able to do at the moment is create steam and heated mist. She's trying to learn more about it to better temper her emotions, a failing that she recognizes.

In the non magical way of things, Chandra's incredibly strong willed, kind, and capable of dealing with a lot of emotional battery. She's very, very hard to keep down, having an almost Shounen protagonist outlook on things. If she wants to do it, she will do it, and nothing is going to stop her. Period. She's got a certain degree of charm to her that wins people over, if they can get past her abrasively rude exterior as well.

Weaknesses
Chandra is fundamentally still human despite the Spark in her. If she's not using her magic to empower herself in some way then she's just as vulnerable as anyone else is to harm. Bullets hurt, spears make her bleed, and she can die with enough punishment. She will heal in time, though, so it's not the end of the world. Her magic itself is drawn from the world around her, though there's only so much Mana she can hold at any given time. It'll replenish itself throughout the day, but overusing it will exhaust her and leave her powerless for a time.

She has a pretty short fuse, and her temper is literally explosive, in the worst sense of the word. She's prone to devastatingly violent outbursts that can do tremendous amounts of damage if she's not careful. She's working on control, and getting better at it, but there are times when the magic in her just leaks out and causes all sorts of problems. She's prone to getting into fistfights when she can't use magic, and she's got some serious issues with authority too. Telling her she has to do something means that she'll not do it, and telling her not to do something brings out a really contrary nature. She's also somewhat afraid of snakes, and hates goblins more than anything in the Multiverse. She's also deathly afraid of being caged and held against her will. Being put in a locked room bothers her, and she'll violently react to anyone trying to hold her against her wishes.

She enjoys herself too much at times too, occasionally overindulging in alcohol or other vices. This leads her into some awkward positions. And she's somewhat naive at times, because she is pretty young for a planeswalker, if not for a person. She's only seen so much of the Multiverse and things that don't work the way she wants them to frustrate her. Finally, she has some issues with being abandoned that are evident in canon. She doesn't like making friends and being separated from them. She hates that more than anything, really. Freedom is what life is about, but if you don't have your friends, then what the hell do you have?

[Limited Powers]:
Chandra will not be able to Planeswalk in High Seas, or she'd just leave the game immediately. Additionally, I'll be increasing the overall drain of her magic on her body. Her Phoenix summon will only be able to work over short distances, as well. She will have no other abilities to fly save the short distance of the Phoenix summon.

Voice
[The journal broadcast begins with a shuffling, scraping sound, like whoever's on the other end is fumbling with it. It's new, and weird and...not her favorite thing.]

Right, so, since I can't get outta here, I figure I may as well try and find something to do. And what I do best, is...well...burn things. Which I do best when I'm annoyed.

[There's a pause, and she's obviously trying to compose herself. Clearly, she's not someone used to being stuck in one place.]

Name's Chandra. Chandra Naalar. And I guess you could say I'm new to this plane. I figure that this journal thing is the best way to get my name out there, but I'm what's called a Task Mage. That means that if you hire me, I'll do a job for you. Preferably something involving demolition. Craterizing things, y'know? I do other things, sure, but that's a specialty of mine. I can probably whip up some sort of enchantments too, if you want them, but that's a bit harder. And of course there's other odd jobs too, like thievery and the like, stuff that's not magic related. Basically if there's something you need, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Payment isn't really all that important since this plane's money is next to worthless on any other, so provided what you want me to do isn't boring I'll consider pro-bono work. [She laughs cheerfully.] And if it is boring, well...you'll owe me. You'll also have to give me a ride even if it isn't, but if you do your ship'll be the best protected thing on the ocean. I promise that much. Wood's not exactly fireproof, y'know? And I love fire.

If that's not enough of a sales pitch for ya, well...I'm not sure what is. I mean, c'mon. I burn things, and blow things up, and just in general make parties a lot more fun. So, if you like fireworks, get in touch and we'll work something out.
